Company History
General Monitoring Services, was founded by Joseph Chetta in 1971, under the name General Security Systems (GSS). Before starting GSS, Mr. Chetta was a law enforcement officer with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department. Mr. Chetta is a past president of the Los Angeles Burglar and Fire Association and now serves on the Board of Directors for General Monitoring Services.
In 1987 GSS decided that it was time to open their own central station and began by monitoring only their accounts. By doing this, they were able to ensure the quality of service that their customers received.

GMS's original central station had only 600 square feet. Our new central boasts over 10,000 square feet with room to expand.
Word soon spread that GSS was doing great things, independent dealers began approaching GSS to monitor their accounts as well. 1994 was a monumental year; Tim LeBlanc came on board, as President and partner to take the company to new heights. The name was changed to General Monitoring Services. Within a short time, it was decided that GSS would no longer compete with our dealers. GMS separated monitoring from the alarm side of the company and sold off the alarm business. Now our only business is monitoring.
Monitoring only alarm panels, is now a thing of the past and anything that can send a signal can now be monitored, from fleet vehicles that have GPS to environmental refrigeration units can be monitored by GMS.

GMS started with 12 employees and monitoring for local companies; today with over 70 employees we are capable of monitoring nationwide.
