Your Company in Good Company

Get More out of Your Time

As a small or medium business owner, you have an endless list of big responsibilities on your shoulders and a finite amount of hours in the day to get it all done. Since there is no way to add more hours to the day it is important to find ways to get more done in less time.

If you’d like to get more done in the day, here are some helpful tips for improving business productivity.

Identify the Most Critical Tasks and Delegate

Sure, there are a million things on that todo list and all of them must be done for your business to run successfully. But not all of the tasks need to be done by you. Many small businesses not only waste valuable time but limit their growth by trying to accomplish every task alone. Instead, identify the most important tasks you must do, and delegate the rest to team members.

Identify Automation Tools

In the low voltage security industry, you know about automation and how helpful it can be. Identify tools that can help automate or alleviate tasks throughout the day, such as hiring an answering service for overflow calls.

Prioritize Tasks

Once you establish what tasks should be on your plate, prioritize them. Identify what is most urgent. Separate the list into short term and long-term projects, accomplishing the short-term as quickly as possible and then devoting unhampered time to the long-term projects.

Do the Least Desirable Tasks First

Don’t let what you dread to stand in the way of your success. Get the least desirable tasks out of the way as early in the day as possible, and then reward yourself for accomplishing them.

Eliminate Time Suckers

It happens to the best of us. We say we are only going to spend five minutes checking mail, looking at social media, or watching youtube and then two hours have gone by. Set a limit for checking business email once a day and save social media for after work.

Say No to Some Opportunities

Not every opportunity that comes your way is right for you or your business. The ones that aren’t can be a huge drain on your time, energy, and resources. While it may be difficult, say no to opportunities that do not fit within your mission and focus on those that do.

Consolidate Errands and Tasks

Group similar tasks and project work together and schedule them for the same day. This saves time having to “reboot” for new tasks.

With a few slight adjustments, you can accomplish far more in your day than you thought possible!
